fashion course structure
The BA Fashion Design course selects approximately 38 of the most dedicated and driven students who can demonstrate they have the potential to work with the high energy and creative dynamism this course requires. Throughout the course, the emphasis is on the development of the students personal design philosophy. Our lively program includes individual design, pattern cutting, construction, illustration, textiles, CAD and industry awareness.
The areas of study include: fashion design and research, the fashion business, promotion sourcing and sampling; professional practice including placements; textile technology, print and knit; and contextual studies in fashion and art history.
The first year studies cover introductions to techniques and methods for all areas of 2D and 3D practice. Design, cut/make, print, CAD including the variables of different fabrics, are covered. Research is fostered by the use of all methods including the internet, and visits.
By the end of the first year of fashion study all students should be equipped with the relevant technical skills to be able to address the specific industry briefs of the second year projects.
